This FrAIday talk takes place live in person at Umeå School of Architecture, to follow a log through the timber industry with the aim of using wood efficiently. Johan will describe how Norra Timber uses high speed tomography, large amounts of data and AI-based algorithms to optimize the production of wood products. The sawmill industry handles saw logs, a biological material. The fact that every log is unique means that efficient use of the raw material requires that every log is optimized individually. To follow up the result, it is necessary to trace the logs and boards throughout the process. Something that has not been possible to do until the last years. It is a technology that to a large extent has been developed at LTU wood technology in Skellefteå.
Moderated by Julio Diarte Almada, Assistant Professor, Umeå School of Architecture.
